Commonwealth at Conference of State Parties to Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Human Rights Unit of the 糖心探花 will host two events in New York City from 13 to 15 June 2023, on the sidelines of the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The conference is an annual gathering of United Nations member countries to discuss matters related to the implementation of the CRPD, a treaty that aims to 鈥減romote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity鈥.

Under this year鈥檚 conference theme of 鈥榟armonising national policies and strategies with the CRPD: achievements and challenges鈥, the Commonwealth events will focus on strengthening the employability of persons with disabilities and sharing good practices in implementing the CRPD鈥檚 core provisions, such as non-discrimination and accessibility.

Event 1: Making work more inclusive 鈥 Strengthening the employability of persons with disabilities

The first event, organised in partnership with Whaikaha, Ministry of Disabled People, New Zealand, and co-sponsored by the International Labour Organization, aims to raise awareness of opportunities and challenges faced by countries in enhancing the employability of persons with disabilities to ensure they can enjoy work on an equal basis with others.

Event 2: Commonwealth good practice knowledge-sharing dialogue

The second event will focus on sharing good practices from Commonwealth countries in implementing the CRPR and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
